The Eagle Rock Itself!
Here it is! I grew up believing the "Indian Legend" that the indentation on the rock was made when a giant eagle that was carrying away a child crashed into it. Since then I've heard many other possible origins for the name over the years, and certainly the profile is reminiscent of a beak! The Eagle Rock is a source of pride for many of us, and was dedicated by the City of Los Angeles in 1962. In the 1980s a developer threatened to build apartments around the Rock. The community rallied together and got the city to purchase the property below the Rock and make it a little park.

This picture is where I always assumed the name came from.

Now photograph a front view for the FLYING eagle! (Mom)
ReplyDeleteYou are both absolutely right, the front view shows the flying eagle indentation, and is the most photographed angle! I hope with this blog to try to show things in Eagle Rock from a different perspective, literally! I have some other views of the Rock that very few people have ever seen. Stay Tuned!
ReplyDeleteAt various times i conjur up 2 or 3 eagle shapes in my minds eye.
